Who Should I Sponsor

Sponsorship is probably the most important role you will play in the Emmaus community. Your invitation to a candidate is just the first step on the Walk to Emmaus. As a sponsor, you should walk with your candidate all the way to Emmaus and back.

 1.  Who should you invite to participate in the Walk to Emmaus? Emmaus is for active Christians who, through their personal renewal, will bring new energy, commitment and vision to the Church. Potential prospects include: Church leaders, both clergy and laity, Christians who are the quiet backbone of the Church.

Christians who need a rekindling of grace and an opportunity to renew their commitment to our Lord

Christians who are hungry for something more and want to grow spiritually

  2.  Who should you NOT invite to participate in the Walk to Emmaus?

Non-Christians

Persons undergoing an emotional crisis

Persons whose theology or practice is notably different or incompatible with the theology or practice represented by the Walk to Emmaus

Persons who are continually looking for another spiritual high

  3.  How do you sponsor a candidate?

Pray for the person's openness to God's call to discipleship

Meet with your potential candidate(s); invite them to attend for the sake of a more vital relationship with Jesus Christ; tell them how your Walk has blessed your life

Continue to pray; request agape letters from the candidate's friends and family

Support the Walk through your prayers, attendance and service, being sure to take your Pilgrim to Send-off and return them home after Closing

  4.  How do I support my Pilgrim?

Encourage your Pilgrim in their 4th Day involvement; take them to the 4th Day meeting on Tuesday following their Walk; help them find or start a Reunion Group

Take your Pilgrim to the next set of Walks, work along side of them in the kitchen and dining room, and take them to the Prayer Room

Help your Pilgrim sponsor others. Sponsorship is an act of love for God, for the candidates, for the Emmaus community, and for the Church. It is a demonstration of agape love. It is making oneself an instrument of God's Prevenient Grace.

Emmaus is open to members of any Christian denomination. The love and call of Christ is for everyone!
